Please refer to the Opportunities section of your programme page for additional information on the career prospects from study at IT Sligo.

All of our taught programmes are delivered through Online Learning.

Our commitment to making education more accessible led us into online learning in 2002 and we have since become the leader in Ireland in the use of technology in the delivery of distance education. Our online programmes replicate the traditional face-to face classroom by web-casting live classes over the Internet. During an online lecture you can hear the lecturer and see the board and/or class material that they are working.

All live lectures are recorded for those who may not be able to attend the lectures live. Therefore, if you have missed the live lecture, you can download the recorded version and listen to it in your own time.

The recorded lectures are also a valuable revision resource. In addition, each programme and module has its own web page where lecturers can post useful resources, students can submit assignments and get private feedback and where students can communicate with their lecturers and with each other. Some of the online programmes may require students to attend IT Sligo for a number of practical classes, usually three or four times per year.

Online learning from IT Sligo has been very successful with high examination marks and good feedback from our students. We have enrolled students from many of the large multinational and SME companies in Ireland including the following: Intel, Coca-Cola, Boston Scientific, Abbott, Masonite, Eli Lilly, Janssen Biologics, Pfizer, Stiefel a GSK company and Merck, Sharp and Dohme (MSD).

Attend a FREE interactive Webinar

Most IT Sligo online modules are delivered as weekly live interactive online presentations.  These are presentations where you can see the slides or board and see and hear the lecturer and where you can ask questions during the class and are often referred to as “Webinars”.

In order to explain in more detail the nature of the online learning experience from IT Sligo we are inviting you to attend a 30-minute webinar.  Not only will you find out more about our online programmes, you’ll actually experience an online class for yourself.

To get access instructions you just need to register for one of the upcoming webinars.

How can I pay?

Once you have been accepted to your course of choice you will be informed via email. This email will contain a payment link where you can pay your €250 deposit.

This deposit is requested as confirmation that you wish to accept your place on your programme of choice.  Payment confirmation is then received by the admissions office at the Centre for Online Learning at IT Sligo.

The remaining fees can be paid in full, per semester or as part of an instalment plan.

Payment of fees per semester?

Fees can be paid on a semester basis. The first semester runs from September – December and these fees must be paid prior to the course commencing. The second half of your fees to be paid in December will be to cover the January – May semester. Payment can be made online by credit card.

If I change my mind about the course, are fees refunded?

The €250 booking fee used to secure your place on the course is non-refundable. The balance of semester fees must be paid prior to the course commencement. Claims for refund of fees will only be made in the following circumstances:

  • Where a student leaves within two weeks of commencing a short course or module (12-16 weeks), 70% refund of the course fee will apply.
  • Where a student leaves within four weeks of commencing a long course (1 Year), 70% refund of the course fee will apply.
  • Claims for refund of fees must be made within two weeks of withdrawal from the course and will not be processed thereafter.

After this time, IT Sligo accepts no obligation to refund any fees or part thereof. However, in exceptional cases of extreme hardship, participants may appeal directly in writing to the Course Co-ordinator for a refund of fees paid (less the booking fee of €250). Appeals are considered on a case-by-case basis. It is in this regard that applicants are requested to inform themselves of the various requirements of the programme and to contact the course organiser for guidance on the programme suitability prior to enrolling. Students will have the option of deferring a module or modules for a maximum period of 2 years and must also fulfil the examination deferral regulations.

What if the course is cancelled?

All courses are being offered subject to a sufficient number of students and the necessary resources being available. Students having registered and paid course fees will be refunded in full should the course be cancelled. Refunds typically take 1 month to process.

Can I get tax relief on my fees?

As the Institute of Technology, Sligo is listed by the Irish revenue as an ‘APPROVED INSTITUTION’ you should be in a position to claim tax relief at the standard rate for tuition fees. In order to determine if the course you apply for qualifies and your own eligibility for a tax refund, please read the information on the revenue website: http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it31.html This information should also be read in conjunction with Leaflet IT31. If you are in any doubt as to whether a particular course qualifies for tax relief you should contact your local Revenue office which is listed on the leaflet IT31.

When I lost my job, Springboard was there when I needed it. This initiative gave me a fantastic opportunity for upgrading my degree and gaining new skills while I was seeking a new job. Marek Gronowski
The Certificate in Biopharmaceutical Science is well-structured, paced and highly applicable. The lecturers are continually supportive and approachable and their exceptional industrial experience is apparent throughout. I began with no experience in this sector and complete the course with a great understanding and knowledge of bioprocessing. I absolutely recommend this course to anyone thinking of entering or already in the Biopharmaceutical sector. Eimear Carney
The online lecture delivery of this course was very user-friendly and facilitated my participation in this course which was being delivered on the other side of the country. I was able to study at my own pace and in my own home. The learning environment incorporates interactive tools so that I could partake in group discussions with my classmates and there was always someone available to provide assistance. Sorcha Byrne
